City of Nampa and Viaero Wireless Simplify Backup and Recovery Management and Regain Confidence in Protection of Business Critical Data Assets

SAN DIEGO-BakBone Software® , the leading provider of heterogeneous integrated data protection, recently announced that the City of Nampa and Viaero Wireless have deployed a suite of BakBone and Data Domain, Inc. products to meet their backup and recovery objectives. By pairing BakBone?s NetVault®: Backup data protection solution with Data Domain?s deduplication storage, organizations can efficiently address a broad range of data protection needs. For City of Nampa and Viaero Wireless, the combination of BakBone?s award-winning data protection solution, NetVault: Backup, with Data Domain?s field-proven deduplication storage offered an easy-to-manage and cost-effective platform that has met increasing data protection demands. These users have benefited from faster backups, improved restore times, seamless integration and reduced administration, leading to a lower total cost of ownership.

City of Nampa

The City of Nampa, Idaho, is the second largest city in the state and one of the fastest growing cities in the area, reflected in expanding businesses, an increasing population of more than 80,000 and new developments. Police investigation audio records, city records, and other critical community information form the city?s five terabytes of data stored across 30 servers. Challenged by exponential data growth and increased demand by its users, Nampa purchased a NetVault: Backup solution and Data Domain deduplication storage, which have significantly reduced the city?s backup window and allowed easier accessibility to critical data assets.

?After researching our options, we found that NetVault: Backup with Data Domain provided the lowest total cost of ownership over other solutions on the market,? said Dennis D. Elledge, director of Information Systems for the City of Nampa. ?It is incredibly easy to manage our archives and maintain data without having to pull out tapes. Our backup administrator enjoys using NetVault: Backup because it performs faster, is easy to access, provides fast restores for our end users and gives us the confidence that our data is being protected.?

Viaero Wireless

Viaero Wireless provides rural wireless service to their subscribers, making their safety, quality of life, and ability to communicate the equal of their urban counterparts. As a long time cellular phone provider, Viaero Wireless provides services to the residents and businesses of Colorado and Nebraska and is expanding into Wyoming and Kansas. Viaero chose to implement BakBone along with two Data Domain DD565 deduplication storage systems for faster recoveries and a streamlined backup process. Viaero also implemented Data Domain?s Replicator software, which enables an automated, efficient disaster recovery process for the organization.

?We back up our data every night and with our BakBone and Data Domain solution we were able to decrease our backup windows by at least 50 percent and simplify the process with better management capabilities and an easy-to-use interface,? said Tom Vail, system administrator, Viaero Wireless. ?The combination of BakBone and Data Domain gives us a reliable, cost-effective solution that keeps our data available and our business online.?

?BakBone understands that minimizing complexities and reducing the cost of operations is a critical element in IT environments,? said Jeff Dresher, vice president of Marketing, BakBone. ?In recently?s market it is paramount that companies realize a quick ROI on their IT investments. With BakBone and Data Domain, companies can implement a comprehensive, cost-effective platform that simplifies the process of restoring data and reduces administrative time.?

BakBone recently introduced a simplified licensing model aimed at joint Data Domain and BakBone reseller partners. The new licensing model makes it simple for customers to buy and configure the solutions and enables a cost-effective and easy way for these partners to quote BakBone software for any Data Domain system and configuration.
